Our friend David turned up this afternoon in his prized open-top 1961 Daimler Dart to take John for a ride, but he was so paranoid about leaving it in the street with the roof open that he wouldn't come in.
What a lovely car!
I can understand David's feelings about his Dart. Geoff has a 1939 Morris Series 2 pick-up truck, which he restored from a basket case. Unfortunately it too attracts dodgy folk as well as admirers. I remember sitting in a pub, having lunch on the way back from Devon, and looking out of the pub window just in time to see a nefarious hooter lifting the leathercloth cover over the back of the truck, peering inside, and picking up a bottle of mead from the two cases I had bought during our holiday. I went quickly outside and confronted the would-be thief, who mumbled 'just looking' (oh, please!) and smartly leapt into his car and drove off.
I often feel sad that I sold my MGBGT, even though I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to get into and out of it nowadays. I did love that car, but it had to go when Charles got too big for the skimpy back seat and had to sit with his head sideways!
I've ridden in the back of a MGBGT, and I know what it's like - not at all comfortable. A great car, though - I'd love to have one - especially the V8 version.
Geoff's restoring a 1973 MG Midget (bright yellow) at the moment, and that will be good fun to drive and to take to rallies when it's ready.
I'm glad that you found Morgan safe and sound, and I hope that you'll have enjoyed your restaurant meal.
