I hardly did any of the things I had planned to do yesterday.

Instead, after I'd done the shopping in the afternoon, I watched Monk on TV with Charles, because we love it and it's not on that often, and then I made some blackberry, almond, rosewater and blackberry liqueur muffins after which I listened to theJazz while I prepared everything ready to cook the evening meal.

The muffins were a bit of a disappointment, actually. Next time I shall put in twice as much rosewater and liqueur, even though I already doubled up on the quantities in the recipe.

We had a lovely dinner of liver, onions, bacon, fried mini-tomatoes and super-delicious purple sprouting. I actually remembered to cook the bacon this time!

There was nothing at all I wanted to watch on TV and I hadn't got round to visiting Blockbuster, so instead of spending the evening watching a good film or writing, I spent it downloading and installing all Windows updates and patches, followed by the SP2 pack and then Internet Explorer 7, without which I cannot use the My Classic FM player to listen to their online 24 hour Jazz stream. After all that, I still haven't managed to get the player working properly!

I've put off updating XP because I'd heard such a lot of horror stories from other people who had updated and had innumerable problems, but so far, I have to say that apart from the hourzandhourz it took to download and install it all, it has had no effect whatsoever except that things seem to be running just a little faster. I did have to disable that lbooyd Windows Messenger again, but I suppose you can't blame them for trying. That MSN website is absolutely horrible to navigate and it would all probably have taken much less time if that hadn't been the case.

Fortunately I had a good book to read (Barking by Tom Holt) while I did it, because it was as slow and tedious as it was when I bought my first PC and had to install the OS and all the programs myself, when I didn't really know what I was doing and all I had for guidance was a manual translated directly from the Japanese by a tribe of chimpanzees.

Now I'm going to admit something utterly shocking which I know I should not have done.  Being faced at stupid o'clock by a message from Windows that I should first back up my system and data files, I totally ignored it and pressed ahead.  So far, so good!   Gulp!

I had thought that we might tackle the front garden today, before it gets too overgrown with weeds, but I only have to mention the G-word for it to become freezing cold and windy.  Not only that but I've somehow slept awkwardly and hootered my right knee again.  I'm not too upset, because I can get on with my writing but poor John is feeling really bored, although he doesn't want to do any of the things I've suggested.  It's a pity about the garden because we had a downpour yesterday afternoon that has probably left the soil just right for pulling up weeds.  However, it's so cold and windy and horrid that Bramble and Morgan would rather sit and look out of the window than go outside.  It's strange that it's so cold because yesterday it was rather warm and I turned off the heating from about 4.00 pm onwards, and only put it back on again before I went to bed so that it wouldn't be too cold this morning.

Oh look!  It's nearly one o'clock!  Time I got dressed!  I've just realised that I haven't had any coffee yet.  I must remedy that immediately!
