I had to visit the Ophthalmology Dept of the RVI this morning because at my last diabetic Annual Review they thought the degeneration in one of my eyes had worsened.

I hate visiting the Ophthalmologist because it always gives me a headache. Today when I arrived I had the two sorts of drops put in, which hurt like hell and then went back to sit in the waiting room where I found that there was a 30 minute delay for the clinic I didn't actually go in until well over an hour had passed.

The technician shone bright lights into my eyes and then told me off for closing the one eye he wasn't actually holding open. After a lot of examination, I had yet more painful eye drops and further examination.

Finally, the guy spoke to the consultant and said that I have a slight deterioration, that they don't think is due to diabetes, and that I should have another appointment in 6 months at which point they will have to decide whether or not I need laser eye surgery. Gulp!

When I left the hospital with my eyes weeping copiously, the sun was shining really brightly and I couldn't see anything at all without putting my hands over my eyes. I had to struggle like that with my mobile while I tried to ring John to ask him to collect me. I had to make two calls, because he had already left home and was lurking somewhere nearby, and I had to do it all by guess.

Once I got in the car I found my sunglasses and put them on, so I started to feel a little better, and when I got home and went to sit in the kitchen, the sun had already passed over the roof, so I could sit in the not-so-bright light from the kitchen window. Then the headache started. It's only really gone away this evening, and I'm still having problems focusing properly. Doubtless it will be better by the morning.

One good thing was that the Asda delivery man came about an hour early, having telephoned us first, and there was only one substitution, which was acceptable. I found that I'd ordered some items twice, I had obviously altered the quantity button inadvertently, which was OK for most things, but we now have 2 large cartons of Asda's finest custard sitting in the fridge. I suppose someone will dispose of them! I'd also ordered double the creme fraiche, which is OK because it usually has quite a long fridge-life, and extra tea as well two packets of pan scrubbers. Amazingly one packet has disappeared already as people have taken them away for their own purposes. Who would have thought it?

When I came upstairs I discovered that cats had been fighting on my bed and the duvet is covered with lumps of hair, which I must vacuum before I go to bed.

This afternoon I actually managed to get the MyClassicFM player working properly, but as I was out of the room when the message came up asking if I wanted to continue listening, it cut me off, and now I can't get it working again. Grrrrrrrr!

All it does is repeat the "This is My Classic FM" and its variants over and over. I'm completely fed up with it. So much for it replacing theJazz!

This last week I've had the annual Community Tax demand and the Water rates demand and they've both gone up a lot more than I would have liked. The combined increase far exceeds the annual increase in the State Pension which I get next month. I really resent the water rates bill, because our tap water is disgusting both in taste, smell and colour, so in addition, we have to spend a fortune on bottled water.

I think I shall have an early night and rest my eyes while I listen to the radio.
