Lovely day!
Feb. 13th, 2008 05:39 pmToday has been lovely and quite balmy.
The leaves are coming out on the Bridal Wreath Spiraea and the flowering currant. There are catkins on the hazel bushes.
This afternoon John and I went to the Riverside Park for a little womble. It was so warm I was able to walk about in a long-sleeved T shirt and a cardigan, although John wore his tweed hat and a warm jacket over his pullover. Charles wouldn't come because he woke up in a bad mood. To make up for it, he went into the back yard while we were out and did a little clearing up.
It was very sunny and peaceful except for the chaps training their rowing teams, who didn't make a lot of noise, and who were moving up and down the river anyway so that they couldn't be too much of a nuisance. I found it quite fascinating, actually. There were two good crews, one male and one female, a couple of not-quite-so-good crews and one of what seemed to be people rowing for the first time. They spent hours rowing backwards and forwards along the same half mile or so of river, and we got a really good view.
There was also a solitary young swan, just changing into adult plumage, but he never came near enough for a photo.
There was a beautiful tree with white blossom in the car park, and it looked so good against all the black branches. But although I tried to take a photo of it, for some reason I seemed to be a bit shaky today and it came out blurred. I did get a really good one of the half-moon against a heavenly blue sky, though.
We started back at about 4.30 pm and went to the mini-Tesco for a couple of things I couldn't get in Lidl or Costco. By the time we got home it was getting quite cold.
The forecast is for the weather to get worse again from tomorrow onwards, so it was nice to get a couple of hours sunshine and fresh air while it was warmish.
I did have something particular I was going to write about in my journal, but it has totally gone out of my head.
