I had an e-mail from Amazon this afternoon to say that my order from their special offer of 3 CDs for £10 was going to be incomplete because the price of one of the CDs had been wrong.

I was rather miffed to say the least, and when I went online to cancel the entire order so that I could re-order, there was a message to say that the order was about to be despatched so I couldn't cancel or amend it.

I was getting more and more cross, so I telephoned customer services, and true enough, the phone rang back before I'd had a chance to draw breath. However, it was the usual sort of well-spoken foreign customer sales person who couldn't really understand the points I was trying to get over.

The first point was that they should have told me about the problem so that I had time to re-order or cancel and the second was that they had accepted my order and it should be binding. She went away for some time and then came back and told me the disputed item was now on sale again at the originally advertised price and I could re-order it. I pointed out that I could only order it as part of the special offer if I order another 2 CDs, since I could apparently not cancel or amend my order.  She went away again for ages and after a while the phone went dead.

By now I was incandescent, so I immediately went back online, and lo and behold!, my order was no longer uncancelable! So I cancelled it.

I then went back and ordered the same three albums again, without any problem and have been given the same proposed delivery date. I've also had their confirmatory e-mail.

So what on Earth was that all about?  I'm really puzzled because I've been buying stuff from Amazon for years now and I've always been really satisfied with their service.

Fortunately Charles and I had been putting ourselves into a really good mood by looking at photographs of the cats when they were little and watching this really stupid YouTube video,

which had us helpless in hysterics, otherwise the whole thing might have dissipated my good mood.

I had trouble sleeping last night owing to my extremely painful right knee which had been getting worse all week end and I didn't wake up today till 10.30 am, but fortunately I woke with my knee feeling almost completely better which was a great relief.

I decided that  seeing as the day had started so late and as I have to go to the ophthalmology department tomorrow and probably won't be able to see too well afterwards, because of the drops they put in my eyes to dilate the pupils so they can photograph the back of the eyes, I would just spend what remained of today reading and writing.  So apart from the Amazon incident, nothing much has happened today.

This was odd, because we did have a severe weather warning for this area for today and tomorrow, but all we've had today is a little rain and gentle zephyrs.  When I went back to the Meteorological Office online, I found that the severe weather has been delayed and will be with us tomorrow and Wednesday.  Oh joy!  So if John gets a job tomorrow, I shall be standing outside the RVI in howling gales and probably rain, trying to see my mobile well enough to call a taxi.

I'm still having problems getting the My Classic FM player to work satisfactorily, but I'm too exhausted by Amazon to attempt to contact them today!
